Dry Skin

Dry skin is characterized by reduced sebum production and moisture, resulting in a rough texture and flakiness. You might also notice a powdery appearance on your skin.

Even with regular moisture application, your skin continues to dry out because the cells responsible for retaining moisture are reduced. The skin's renewal process slows down, leading to the accumulation of thickened dead skin cells. This can make your skin more prone to dry acne and make it difficult to see improvements from skincare routines. With minimal moisture as a barrier, your skin is also more susceptible to external irritants, which can lead to rashes and dermatitis.

In women, a decrease in female hormones can reduce sebum production, which often leads to dryness, especially before and during menstruation.

Daily Skincare

Choose gentle cleansers and body soaps that don’t strip away too much sebum. Look for products labeled as additive-free or for sensitive skin.

For toners, prioritize those focused on moisturizing. Apply a generous amount of toner to your hands, and mix in a small amount (about a teaspoon or two) of lotion or facial oil before applying it to your skin. Gently press the mixture into your skin and leave it on while any remaining droplets dry. You don’t need to press your hands onto your skin continuously; your skin will absorb what it needs.

If you’re concerned about skin irritation, choose skincare products that contain vitamins A and E.

Improving blood circulation can help with nutrient delivery, so consider incorporating massages or facial exercises into your routine.

If dry skin is neglected, it may lead to sensitive skin. Focus on proper skincare now to maintain healthy, beautiful skin.

To enhance moisture retention, look for products containing the following ingredients:

  • Hyaluronic Acid
  • Collagen
  • Elastin
  • Ceramide
  • Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMF)
  • Propylene Glycol
  • Glycerin

Personally, I recommend ceramide.

If your skin’s outer layer is thickened, use a hot towel or steam to soften your skin and improve absorption. Be sure to follow up with either lotion or oil after applying toner.

For your diet, focus on quality proteins, omega-3 and omega-6 oils, beta-carotene, vitamin E, and minerals. Include fish, nuts, carrots, and other colorful vegetables. For protein, consider eggs and cheese.

Additionally, since your skin’s barrier function is weakened, be cautious with clothing, perfumes, and detergents. For laundry detergent, it's recommended to use those specifically designed for delicate fabrics. Avoid those with added fragrances.

Regarding fabric materials, natural fibers such as cotton, linen, and silk are preferable. Synthetic fibers like rayon (cupra) and nylon are also made to be gentle on the skin and are generally fine to use.

Ensure you get adequate sleep to replenish your body’s energy.

While frequent moisturizing is beneficial, avoid using mist sprays as they can actually cause moisture to evaporate. Over-treating your skin can also weaken it. Focus on your morning and evening skincare routine.
