Relieve Menstrual Pain: Nira (garlic chive) Japanese Omelet

Ingredients (Serves 2)

  • Half a bunch of garlic chives (nira)
  • 3 eggs
  • Dashi (soup stock), such as mentsuyu, shirodashi, dashi soup, or tsuyu no moto (use about the same amount as for half a serving of soba broth. Adjust the amount of water as needed according to the product)
  • 2 tablespoons of rice oil or sesame oil

Preparation Steps

  • Preparation

Cut the garlic chives into 1 cm pieces.

Beat the eggs well, then add the garlic chives and broth, and mix.

・Cooking

Add oil to a frying pan and heat it.

Cook the egg mixture in small amounts over medium heat.

Once cooked, roll the egg and then pour in the remaining egg mixture to heat, repeating the process.

Layer the eggs, and once it's rolled into an omelet, shape it on aluminum foil. (If you prefer a soft center, you’ll need this step, but it’s unnecessary if you cook it thoroughly.)

Cut into bite-sized pieces, and it's ready to serve.

This dish tends to be well-received.

It provides a more substantial feeling compared to miso soup, so it's a great option when you have an appetite, whether before or during your period.

Nira is truly a fantastic ingredient for menstrual pain!

Since the broth can make it harder to hold its shape, you can simply turn it into a scrambled egg dish if needed.
